Have a happy lohri with “ gur ki roti”

The festival of Lohri is a popular winter Punjabi folk festival celebrated on 13 January every year. Apart from a taste of tradition, dance and dhol, it offers great food! Lohri is associated with worshipping the Hindu God of fire, Lord Agni and also the harvest of Rabi crops. It’s a cultural celebration where food plays a major role. Among other special recipes of this festival, ‘Gur Ki Roti’ is one. Follow this simple recipe to make this Lohri special dish at your home.

GUR KI ROTI:


Preparation time – 25 minutes.
Easy to prepare.
Serving – Up to 8 people.

Ingredients:
• 1.5 Cups Whole Wheat Flour
• 1 Cup Ghee
• 3 Cups grated Gur
• 1 Cup Milk
• 1/8 tsp Baking Soda
• Salt to taste
• Purti Oil for frying
PROCESS:
Step 1: Dissolve 3 cups of Gur in 1 cup milk over low heat and then cool.
Step 2: Mix 1/8 tsp baking soda with 1.5 cups of whole wheat flower. Add a pinch of salt.
Step 3: Put ghee into the whole wheat flower, and knead into a firm dough using the milk solution. Add more milk if required.
Step 4: Roll into 1/4-inch-thick rounds, prick and cook over low heat.
Step 5: Add Purti Oil in a pan and toast the roti.

And voila! Your Lohri special ‘Gur ki Roti’ is ready to serve!
